Brooklyn Shakespeare Festival 2014: Romeo + Juliet
August 2nd has come and gone... and it was AMAZING! This year we easily doubled the amount of people who came by to see one of our performances.
We also added music, hosted an outside company (Underlings Productions), and had a performer on 4 ft. stilts juggling knives!!! We produced a fast paced, accessible, totally immersive version of Romeo + Juliet, and we performed it 3 times to crowds building up to 100 people through out the day.
The best part of it all, is after a panicky morning filled with doubt and concern and wondering what the weather might be like for the day, by 11am it was all sunshine...and it stayed that way for the rest of the day, making for a beautiful backdrop to our day in the park.
Owls Head Park is magic, and everyone should grab a blanket at some point, take a day to enjoy it before the summer ends! Its truly a gem in Bay Ridge.
Its the continuing mission of brooklynONE to produce works that are original, challenging, immersive, fun and accessible... We think we hit all the right marks with the festival this year.
We will continue to create performing arts in Bay Ridge for as long as we can at our home St. Johns Parish Hall, and hope to be able to find a new home after that!
Thanks so much to all!!
